Dr. Peter King is an experienced clinician and educator with over 25 years of experience in various public, community, and private mental health settings. Since 1993, Peter has worked in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, DBT Programs, Psychotherapy, and as a Senior Executive in the health care and not-for-profit sector. Peter has consolidated this experience both in Australia and the USA through mentoring with Marsha Linehan’s company Behavioral Tech LLC, mentoring with the creator of Somatic Trauma Therapy – Babette Rothschild, leading clinical research, and has completed Ph.D. in the mental health field. He also recently completed Level 3 training in Radically Open DBT.

Peter’s current clinical practice is in his Private Practice, Essentia Health, via Telehealth in Melbourne & the Gold Coast, and develops mental health professionals through interactive workshops with a focus on safe trauma therapy approaches and the management of individuals with extreme emotion dysregulation. He completed his Ph.D. focused on Clinical Interventions for Individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder and extreme emotion dysregulation from which he has developed Stabilisation Based Therapy (SBT).

Peter has previously held positions as CEO of an Indigenous Charity, Senior Researcher at the Centre for Rural Mental Health, Senior Clinician/Acting Manager on a Psychiatric Triage Team, University Lecturer, Clinical Educator for Emergency Psychiatry Services and employment with the Royal Melbourne Hospital (Eating Disorders Unit & ECATT).
