Our RO-DBT Skills Classes and DBT Group Registrations are open for our July 2023 intake! Referrals will need to be completed before the 5th of June 2023 if you'd like to enter our July 2023 programs. Our programs are run from the following locations. RO-DBT is Now Available at all our sites!

From mid-September 2022, the Australian DBT Institute will be offering two streams of treatment for individuals who would traditionally be seeking Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) treatment through our Essentia Health Clinics. The traditional DBT, which we have been offering since 2004, will continue for individuals presenting with a spectrum of disorders characterized by excessive under-control (UC). Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO DBT) will also be offered targeting a spectrum of disorders characterized by excessive self-control, often referred to as overcontrol (OC). Both approaches have been well researched and are considered evidence-based treatments. The RO-DBT approach is supported by 20 years of clinical experience and translational research that parallels established guidelines for treatment development (e.g., UK Medical Council, 2008; Rounsville & Carroll, 2001; 2006). Essentia Health has some exciting news! We have expanded our services to now include a specialist NDIS Capacity Building Clinic on the Gold Coast and Nationally via Telehealth! We are also pleased to announce from the 30th March 2022 we will be accepting referrals for a world-first Randomised Clinical Trial (RCT) exploring the effectiveness of Telehealth DBT vs face-face delivery of DBT! All participants in the RCT can access a $600 incentive rebate for participating in this ground-breaking research project with our research partner, Southern Cross University on the Gold Coast. 2022 DBT Group Programs at Essentia Health Due to an increased demand for DBT programs, the Australian DBT Institute has recently launched additional programs in Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast from our Essentia Health Clinics and online through DBT Assist. 2022 is the seventh year DBT programs have been led by Institute Director Dr Peter King in Essentia Health Clinics. Gold Coast Clinic Open January 2022!

Some exciting news, our Gold Coast Clinic will Open in January 2022! Essentia Health is coming to the Gold Coast with the Australian DBT Institute's Gold Coast DBT service also moving to our new location at Level 1, 115 Scarborough Street Southport QLD 4215 from the 10th January 2022! Due to COVID-19 restrictions in Melbourne, the Australian DBT Institute moved the research and development units from our Brighton location to the Gold Coast in June 2020. The institute opened a four-room clinic to deliver Dialectical Behaviour Therapy services through our Gold Coast DBT service in August 2020. Having quickly outgrown the four-room clinic, Gold Coast DBT will now practice from the Australian DBT Institute-owned Essentia Health Clinic. Welcoming our new Clinical Psychologist & DBT Clinician

The Essentia Health Team in Brighton would like to welcome our newest Clinical Psychologist to the practice, Brad Stolz-Grobusch! Brad comes with a wealth of clinical experience and will lead our DBT group programs from June/July 2021! Essentia DBT programs have been run online using the DBT Assist platform during the last 12 months and we look forward to working with Brad to have groups in our clinic once again! Brad has completed intensive training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy in the USA with the treatment developer, Prof Marsha Linehan, and has attended a mindfulness training retreat led by her in Germany. Brad has also completed intensive training in the DBT-Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE) protocol for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with the treatment developer, Dr Melanie Harned. Extension of Telehealth Sessions until 30th June 2021!

Extension of Telehealth Psychology Sessions! The federal government has announced a $1.1 billion extension to the national COVID-19 health response. As part of this announcement, the Government has indicated it will extend the Medicare funding for allied health telehealth services and care until 30 June 2021 which had been due to finish on March 31st 2021.We have had confirmation that this extension includes telehealth psychology sessions. This means that with a valid Medicare referral you will continue to be eligible for a Medicare referral for psychology services accessed via Telehealth (video or phone).
